Here is how Denis Onyango cemented his place as most successful local African footballer

Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango successfully cemented his place as the most successful Ugandan footballer. And also the most successful to play in the South African League, the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

This is after his side, Mamelodi Sundowns won the inaugural African Football League title the equivalent of a Super League that big European clubs had proposed some time ago. The Masandawana beat Algerian side, Wydad Athletic by 2-0 in South Africa.

Consequently they won by an aggregate of 3-2 after having lost 2-1 in the first leg in North Africa. Peter Shalulile have the Brazilians the lead towards the end of the first half. And Aubrey Modiba gave the hosts the second 5 minutes into the second half.

Apparently, coach Rulani Mokwena’s side will receive $4m dollars as prize for winning the tournament. Meanwhile Ugandan Denis Onyango was on the bench as his side clinched the title.

The Ugandan nonetheless added the winner’s medal to his trophy cabinet. Onyango has now won 18 titles in South Africa, the most by any player in the league.

These include 10 league titles, one CAF champions League title. 1 CAF super cup and and others. It shouldn’t also be forgotten that he was crowned the best African player based on the continent in 2016.

Taking to his social media handles, the former Uganda Cranes captain couldn’t hide his excitement.
