Guinea score late to hand Joseph Put first defeat as Uganda Cranes coach

West African country Guinea scored a late winner to hand Joseph Paul Put his first defeat as the Uganda Cranes head coach. This was the first game for both countries in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The West Africans found the net as early as the 10th minute through Aguibou Camara. Twenty minutes later, Cranes striker, Fahad Bayo equalised for the visitors.

Apparently the Cranes held onto up to the added minutes of the 90. It was then that Seydouba Cisse delivered a dagger as he scored in the 90+4 minute.

Additionally Yanga SC skipper, Khalid Aucho captained the Cranes in the absence of Emma Okwi. Okwi who wasn’t called up for the games. Uganda received yellow cards in the first half as they were shown to Aziz Kayondo and Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Besides Put Paul made two changes at the half time break with Timothy Awany and Yunus Ssentamu coming on for Milton Karisa and Bobosi Byaruhanga. The Vipers striker was booked in the 75th minute.

Further changes were made in the additional minutes with Richard Basangwa and Bright Anukani coming on for Fahad Bayo and Travis Mutyaba. The Cranes however couldn’t safeguard the point.

The East African country now sit in the 5th place with 0 points same as Botswana in 4th and Somalia in 5th. Algeria leads the group with 3 points followed by Mozambique and Guinea. All of them have 3.

Apparently the Cranes will be back in action on 21st November which is next Tuesday as they host Somalia.
