Brazil appoints less known Dorival Junior as head coach

Brazil appoints less known Dorival Junior as head coach. The Brazilian national football team has appointed lesser known Dorival Junior as the new head coach of the Selecao. Apparently Dorival has been the head coach of Brazilian side, Sao Paulo.

He will apparently be replacing Fernando Diniz who had been appointed by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on an interim basis. Diniz was apparently sacked by the CBF in order to get a permanent replacement ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Brazil’s first choice had been Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian however distanced himself from the job as he recently signed a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It should be noted that the Samba Boys had been previously under Tite. But after a disappointing World Cup in Qatar, he left his role. Now the 61 year old Dorival Junior’s first role will be to get Brazil’s 2026 WC qualifying campaign on track.

So far, they had lost 3 games in a row in the EC qualifiers. His first game will be played at Wembley on 23rd March against England in a friendly.

Furthermore, he will also lead the record World Cup champions at the Summer Copa America tournament in the US .

“São Paulo Football Club announces the departure of coach Dorival Júnior, who has asked to leave to take charge of the Brazilian national team,” the club said in a statement on X. Brazil appoints less known Dorival Junior as head coach
