Mbale Heroes back to the UPL after many years

In Sunday’s FUFA Big League match, Mbale Heroes defeated Onduparaka FC 2-1 to secure promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

This will be the first top level football game the team coached by Simon Ddungu, also known as Dunga, has played in 19 years.

This will be Mbale Heroes’ first appearance in the Uganda Premier League since their 2005 relegation.

Mbale Heroes were relegated to the Uganda Premier League via goals from Shafic Kiberu and Daniel Shabena.

Onduparaka’s late goal by James Jarieko was merely a solace for the Arua-based team, who will play in the FUFA Big League for another season.

At the end of the first half, Kiberu scored a spectacular free kick goal to give Ddungu’s team the lead.

In the seventieth minute, Shabena increased their lead by two goals, thrilling the home crowd.

With 49 points, Mbale Heroes is third in the FUFA Big League standings and will play in the Uganda Premier League alongside leaders Police FC and Lugazi in the upcoming season.
