Man of his word: Erling Halaand pays tribute to Didier Drogba

Manchester City striker made sure to keep his promise that he made to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in Paris last week. While at the Ballon d’Or gala at the Theatre La Chateaux, Drogba told Halaand of his celebration.

He then asked the goalscoring machine to celebrate like him the next time he scores. And the Norwegian who won the Gerd Muller award at the ceremony didn’t disappoint.

Halaand netted a brace as Manchester City beat Swiss side Young Boys of Bern 3-0. And the Norwegian didn’t forget to pay tribute to one of the greats of the game.

Drogba is famously remembered for his Champions League equaliser against Bayern Munich in the 2012 final against Bayern Munich. The Ivorian netted a stoppage time header to draw the Blues level.

Chelsea would go on to win the UCL for the first time ever in their history under Italian coach, Roberto Di Matteo.

Didier Drogba used to throw his hands by his side before doing a slide as he celebrated his goals.

Meanwhile Halaand has so far scored 39 goals in only 34 UEFA Champions League matches. The all time top scorer of the competition Cristiano Ronaldo scored 140 goals in 187 games.

The second top scorer of the competition Lionel Messi with 129 goals played in 163 games. Halaand will therefore be aiming for this record as he’s just 23 years old.
