Unai Emery Reveals Why He Didn’t Shake Hands With Arsenal’s Coaching Staff

Unai Emery Reveals Why He Didn’t Shake Hands With Arsenal’s Coaching Staff. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has revealed why he didn’t shake hands with Arsenal’s Coaching Staff in the controversial 1-0 win over the Gunners.

The Villains found the back of the net as early as the 7th minute through John Mccgin. The game dragged on until the 90 minutes and the Gunners couldn’t find an equaliser let alone a winner. However the Gunners felt undone by VAR as Gabriel Jesus was kicked through by Douglas Luiz in the penalty box.

VAR and referee Jarred Gillette didn’t bother to have a look. Furthermore, Kai Havertz saw his equaliser in the 91st minute canceled after he was adjudged to have handled the ball. However, the ball had hit Matty Cash’s hand first.

The Gunners meanwhile created a couple of goalscoring opportunities which they didn’t utilise. The clearest fell to their skipper Martin Odegaard who couldn’t score.

Villa’s defender, Diego Carlos should also have been sent off after elbowing Eddie Nketiah intentionally. After the game Mikel Arteta who had been banned from the touchline quickly left the executive box.

No handshake

Emery while speaking about the handshakes said that it was nothing personal. He didn’t shake the technical bench because Arteta left early. Apparently he only shook the hands of those he worked with in his 18 month stint at Arsenal before being sacked.

“No, because Arteta wasn’t on the bench. I gave my hand to the workers inside because they were there when I was there, but only with the people I coached with and who worked with me.”

He continued: “There was nothing personal. It was because it wasn’t Arteta. I respect a lot Arsenal and Arteta. I respect a lot the workers there. Besides I have nothing negative against them.”

This win saw Aston Villa make a club record of 15 games without a defeat. They beat Arsenal and Manchester City in a space of three days and now are two points off the top. Unai Emery Reveals Why He Didn’t Shake Hands With Arsenal’s Coaching Staff.
