Turkish Leagues Suspended After Assault On Referee (Video)

Turkish Leagues Suspended After Assault On Referee. The Turkish football leagues have all been suspended until further notice after a referee was assaulted in a football game last night.

Referee Halil Umut Meler got punched in the face after a 1-1 draw in the Turkish Super Lig gane between Ankaragucu and Caykur Rizespor. This abhorrent act was carried out by Faruk Koca.

Apparently Ankaragucu was leading 1-0 but Rizespor found an equaliser in the last minute of the game. This angered Faruk Koca who rushed onto the pitch and punched Halil.

Another yet to be identified person kicked the referee while he was lying down. The situation had to be calmed down by the players, coaching staff and others around.

Faruk Koca has also been suspended by the Turkish FA as investigations into the matter are pending. Apparently the level of refereeing in these leagues has been so alarming especially the English Premier League. Some fans have in fact been saying that some of the English referees also deserve this punishment.

However, despite the poor refereeing decisions, violence should never be allowed in sport. It brings the game into disrepute and undermines it’s integrity.
