Vipers climb top of the UPL table after beating Kitara FC

Vipers SC have moved top of the table with a 2-0 win over Kitara FC at the Masindi Municipal Stadium. A first half own goal by Okello Donato and a late strike for Nigerian forward Abubaker Lawal ensured victory in the anticipated clash.

Vipers took the lead in the 19th minute courtesy of Donato who was unfortunate to deflect the ball into his own net after goalkeeper Chris Kusiima had saved Yunus Sentamu’s initial effort.

The second half saw Kitara show intent for a possible equalizer but couldn’t break the resolute of the Venoms. Brian Aheebwa came close in the 77th minute with a header from Donato’s teasing cross but hit the cross bar before being cleared off the line by Rogers Torach.

In the 86th minute, Lawal, who had come in for Milton Kariisa, perfectly combined with Erick Kambale to break the camel’s back with a thunderous shot.
